When we breathe, we are breathing the Divine life of the Universe.
Yoga says this in its own way. The Aramaic-speaking Jesus of Nazareth says it,
too, in its own way. Each in their own languages, each in their own cultural
understandings of reality shares with us practices and techniques that help us to
consciously know that the breath that we take into our human bodies is linked
with the “breath” of the Cosmos.
Maybe using modern quantum physics language will help clarify this truth.
All of life is made of energy which is the vibrational experience of light. Every
second of every day we are fed by the energetic pulsations of the Universe, the
Cosmos. That life vibration, which in our earthly existence is maintained by the
Sun, constantly flows through us and activates us, even when the darkness
covers the earth. We are constantly fed, as well, by the physical vibrational
patterns of the earth, the geological energy of Earth’s minerals and all that grows
on the earth.
We generally don’t think of this reality, often taking our breathing life for granted.
In fact, the more we are in tune with the life forces of the universe and the
grounding forces of the earth and consciously bring them together in ourselves
at our heart, the more fullness of life we have. Sankhya Yoga says this and so
does the Aramaic Jesus’s Way.
Sankhya Yoga in Sanskrit calls this Universal, Cosmic Life Force “prana.” Jesus
of Nazareth in his original Aramaic language called it “ruha”. Both of these
words in English mean, “life force”, “breath”, or “energy”. Both Sanskrit and
Aramaic considered this Source of Life the Reality we call “God”.
So then, every time we breathe, we are breathing in God, the Source of Life,
according to those ancient spiritual traditions. We are constantly being nurtured
by The Divine.
Each of these traditions also teaches very specific methods and practices that
vitalize our bodies and minds. Both the Aramaic-Jesus and the Yoga Tradition
have developed breathing exercises that are meant to bring us into conscious
connection with our Higher Self (with God within us) and The Source of Life.
They are meant to bring us into union with God—the Breath of Life.
What are those techniques, those breathing exercises? More on this next time.
I bow to the divinity within you!
